An L-shaped loft conversion involves extending the loft in two different directions – usually to the back and side – to create extra living space. This floor space is what gives this type of loft conversion it’s name.
One part of the loft usually extends over the main part of the house – creating a larger area for bedrooms, a master suite, or living space – while the other part may extend over an annex, side garage, or an existing rear lower-level extension.
